After watching the Microsoft Popfly screencast it felt like I was witnessing Thunder (Visual Basic’s code name) being released in beta.
I can only get the alpha if invited or there is room in the next round.
First, it shows off what a Silverlight application can do. Then there is a Visual Studio add-in to do Popfly development. Works with the Express editions. The apps are hosted through the Popfly service.
Rotating cubes hold the property grids, lines connect the cubes to build functionality.
For example simply drag, drop, set properties to create a mashup of Twitter entries (+ photos) onto Microsoft Earth. Preview it locally and save it back as an application to Popfly. No Html, CSS, JavaScript.
You can step into JavaScript (I believe managed JavaScript) to do advanced work. Just like double clicking a button in VB and adding code (and better).
The Visual Studio add-in lets you see your friends and their Popfly bits (custom Popfly elements doing mashups and more). Pull them down, rate them, make your own, post them back to the cloud.
It’s going to be a blast playing and creating in this space.
